Thank You, Inara Pey

Exactly one month ago I posted a lengthy piece on this blog about what Linden Lab should do in the short term while we wait for them to solve the big problems with Second Life in the long term. It got a bit of attention which pleased me as this blog was only about six weeks old at the time.

Generally, on my blogs, I write my piece, post it and that’s that. I certainly read any comments that come in and am appreciative of them and the effort that goes into them but I don’t usually take further action. Once I say my piece…I have said my piece. 🙂

But one of the very best bloggers on the subject of SL – in fact she was recently named THE #1 SL blogger, Inara Pey, posted a Comment on that piece. Could I just leave it there? I tried…but I couldn’t stop thinking about it.

What if she is insulted that I didn’t respond? She’s a big deal. And I’m a big fan of hers. I don’t want her to feel insulted.

What if she’s thinking, “That dumbass doesn’t even realize I responded to his blabberings.” She’s #1 and I think she’s great. I don’t want her to think I’m a dumbass.

So finally, today, I just couldn’t take it any longer, worrying about what Inara Pey might think of me. And so, I have responded to her.

The piece is called “In The Meantime…” and our comments follow it, just as you would expect….

What am I going to do now if Ciaran Laval replies to one of my posts?

You flatter me too much, Danko :).

I’d never demand a reply – I know first hand how hard it is to get to reply to comments and feedback when you’re constantly trying to juggle articles and a decent amount of in-world time, especially when yo have multiple blog (I do as well, although two of mine have now largely expired from lack of attention!).

Similarly, I’d never consider myself “number one” in anything – least of all blogging; without wishing to sound patronising or anything of the sort, I think that we all can have things to say which are of value, thought-provoking, informative – and fun as well, depending on our mood / aim. Hence why I read your blog :). Certainly, in the scheme of things, there are those out there (like Honour McMillan, to name but one), who I greatly admire for their insight and writing.

All that said, thank you for taking the time to reply to my comment, and for posting this as well. I’m blushing furiously as I write :).

“Furiously” – perhaps the wrong word, given the unintended connotations! “Deeply” would have been better.

My fault…up FAR too early in the morning to be thinking, let alone typing!

      • I made you blush? Well, my work here is done. 🙂

        But before I go…

You are one of the best – no question. I would not want to be the person who had to figure out who is the absolute #1 but when I read the article that named you, I certainly was not surprised at the choice.

I check you and Ciaran Laval every day. And no offense meant to anyone else as there are a few other bloggers on SL and other virtual worlds whom I check regularly, meaning more than once a week. But I check you two every day for the combination of quality and quantity. You post daily or close to it and you say thoughtful things about subjects of interest to me…and about things I’m not interested in too! (Ciaran has me reading about Dwarfins – I don’t care about dwarfins! But I like reading him. 🙂 And you’ve been doing this for a long time. Quality and quantity over a long period of time is not an easy thing to achieve and from the reader’s standpoint it’s a rare thing to find.

As I said in my first reply to you, I was thrilled when I saw you had commented on one of my articles and that comes from my respect for the work you do on your blog. So I am honored to see my name on your blog roll there (thank you!) and to know that you visit here.

I knew the title of my article would make it a must read for you, LOL, I just wanted to make sure you noticed that I had FINALLY replied. 🙂

Thanks for being a good sport.

        Cheers,

        Danko
