I am not a geek nor do I play one in RP.
Wait. Does the fact that I RP make me a geek?
Hmmm.
This week’s Monday Meme from Strawberry Singh is called The Geeky Meme. It’s inspired by The Geeks’n’Nerds Fair
Befiore I saw Berry’s meme, I had already taken the How Geeky Are You? test and Tweeted my score. (see below)
So what the heck, might as well do The Geeky Meme too.
First, Strawberry defines terms for us…
here are the definitions:
- Geek (n.)- Someone who is smart, enjoys video games, comic books, being on the internet, etc… and usually has a passion or hobby that they obsess over.
- Nerd (n.)- A socially awkward person with a very high IQ. They gain pleasure from amassing large quantities of knowledge about subjects often too detailed or complicated for most other people.
- Dork (n.)- Someone who is a bit socially awkward, has odd interests and is often clumsy. Dorks are typically more noted for their quirky personality.
Ok here goes, I’m not expecting to do well on this…
What do you consider yourself to be? Geek? Nerd? Dork? None of the above? All of the above?
None of the above. Not at all.
What was the first computer you ever owned?
It was a Texas Instruments, forget the model number or type. We used our 12” black and white TV as the monitor. Fanciest thing we could do was play PacMan on it.
When and how did you first get on the internet?
Mid-1990s. Had a computer that we used to write on and play a few games that came on those old non-floppy floppy disks. It was a 286 or 386. Then we bought a new computer (Dell, 486) so we could connect to the net. Bought it for ourselves for Christmas. I set it up on Christmas morning while the cooking was going on in the kitchen. One of the first things we did was look up a turkey soup recipe and print it out on the dot-matrix. Used the recipe that night and we still have the original copy and use that recipe to this day. Which geek fandom do you subscribe to?
I don’t even know what that means.
Star Trek or Star Wars?
Always has been a tough one, always will be. Hmmm. I guess Stark Trek because so much of the material is good or great, only some of Star Wars is good or great. Should have been better than that. Still, the first Star Wars film (episode 4) is my favorite scifi movie of all.
Take the test, Tweet your result.
I am not a geek and therefore I scored a mere 26%. If I scored higher, there would be something wrong with the test.
I am a dork. Dorks can be sexy.
I had a Mac Plus with an external hard drive.
After reading about it in Mondo2000 i wanted to be a CyberPunk. I went on the internet in 1991 using my Mac Plus that i still had at home. I used a 1600 baud modem. At that point I had a 486 at work.
I believe in the potential of Trek Wars.
I got a 97%. (I took the test twice over a couple of days.)

Har har! I got a 93% That sounds about right.
Lets see… I consider myself to be a Geek and Nerd in equal measure, a Gerd if you will.
My first computer was an OSI Superboard model 600, purchased in 1979. I modified the snot out of it over the next two years.
I got in the internet in ’93 using AOL. At that time I was using a 486 outfitted to play Myst, that is a decent graphics and sound cards, and a CDROM drive.
Geed fandom? DUNNO…
Star Trek or Star Wars: Niether. Both suck. Star Wrek is too stilted and boring, Star Wars is just dumb.
